Exactly what do these two words mean? Let's start with meditation.
Meditation is actually a form of concentration. The body and the mind should be stilled.
Meditation is actually a pilgrimage - a pilgrimage to that which is greater than man. In order to truly meditate there must be a freeing of the mind and body of all tension, all
asking, all expecting. Prayer - from the heart - should be said. All hostility toward a
condition or a fellow man MUST BE REMOVED. Meditation is reflecting upon personal weakness as well as personal strength.
THE ONE TRUE PURPOSE OF MEDITATION SHOULD BE TO SIMPLY BECOME AWARE OF THAT WHICH IS GREATER THAN OUR OWN SELF * OUR OWN THOUGHT * OUR OWN MATERIAL DESIRES.
Meditation does not focus upon having an experience - it places you within the experience and when this happens all earthly desires are not a part of it.
Affirmations, releasing of all hostilities, quieting the mind, looking for nothing are
all a part of meditation
Now, what about prayer…
Meditation is actually the stilling of the consciousness. Prayer is actually filling the
consciousness with higher purposes. It is speaking of a belief that there is that which
hears and responds. Prayer is motivated with a purpose. Meditation is coming in tune with creation and asks nothing.
When the physical aspects of prayer and meditation are felt - dizziness, swaying, nausea, floating sensation - it must be remembered that these things, of themselves, are not important. These reactions will "level off" as the physical adjusts to the higher vibrations which are now being experienced.
No prayer or meditation should be done without, first, emptying the mind of all hostility,
anger, resentments doubts and expecting results. Let the results be a part of the prayer
and meditation.
If you are praying and meditating as these things should be done you will find that your
problems become challenges, your feeling towards your daily work will be happier, your
associationships with your fellow man will become more meaningful, your family life will
be peaceful and fruitful, your pocketbook will never be empty and you will find yourself
turning away from certain people and new ones will be coming into your life.
You will discover inner energies are quickened, and you will find that you are giving your
daily living more constructive expression. Remember this, if you work in negatives then expect negative reactions. If you work in positives then expect positive reactions. If you enjoy your Hell of doubts, fears, telling others that what they are doing is wrong, believing, in one breath in a God of Love and in the next breath believing in a Devil then all you can expect is a fear and doubt within yourself.
THE ONLY WORTHWHILE MOTIVATION FOR PRAYER AND MEDITATION IS TO LEARN AND EXPERIENCE HOW YOU CAN UPLIFT THE LIVES OF YOUR FELLOW MAN WITHOUT FORCING YOURSELF UPON THEM, BUT BY JUST BEING YOU.
Go ahead and “conceive”, in your own mind, some ideas of what God is to you. Allow this to build and to gain in belief. Give it the opportunity to "grow”.
I, recently, heard on T.V. what a noted evangelist said about what man should do when his prayer is not being answered. He said this, "Keep on praying over and over.” When my wife heard what this man said she said, "Yes, keep on nagging Him." What my wife meant was to keep on "nagging" Him showed how little man understands true prayer and meditation. Words mean absolutely nothing... What is WITHIN IS THE TRUE PRAYER. If it is felt that no inner experience is necessary then prayer falls on barren ground.
WAIT, LISTEN, KNOW!!!!
Keep the mind clear of ALL negatives… let no man influence you by what THEY think… When your own experience is revealed accept the fact that you may not again have another one for a long time… You might feel very alone… You might have a "low” feeling but these things are all necessary in order to give you time to ABSORB the experience and when this is accomplished you will be ready for the next step
Any questions????
